The BSE Sensex opened at 27,243, touched an intra-day high of 27,305 and low of 26,856 respectively, and finally ended with a loss of 175 points at 26,904. Losers was seen in IT, Pharma, Teck and FMCG stocks.
The NSE Nifty opened at 8,232 hitting a high of 8,245 and low of 8,128 respectively, before signing off with a loss of 46 points or 0.6% at 8,144. The India VIX (Volatility) indexis up 0.64% to 19.05.
On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index gained 3.3% to 3,288. The Hang Seng closed higher 1.2% to 22,669, and the Nikkei rallied 1.6% at 18,439. As of 1530 hrs IST, the FTSE 100 is marginally down 0.3% to 6,396. The DAX and the CAC 40 had gained 0.3% at 10,123 and 4,638, respectively.
The Indian currency was quoted at 64.87 per US dollar, up 19 paise from the previous trading session. Out of 1,754 stocks traded on the NSE, 818 declined and 692 advanced today.
