Sensex, Nifty In Red; Metal, Pharma Stocks Drag

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,336 down 29 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,252 down 12 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.77% at 11,210, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.62% at 11,656. The India VIX (Volatility) index is down 0.20% to 16.84. Out of 1,747 stocks traded on the NSE, 611 declined and 881 advanced today.

Some buying activity is seen in auto, IT, power and teck sectors, while metal, pharma and oil&gas sectors are showing weakness on BSE. Tata Motors, TCS, NTPC, Infosys and GAIL are among the gainers, whereas Vedanta, Cipla, M&M, Hindalco and Tata Steel are losing sheen on BSE.

Indian Rupee today opened lower by 15 paise at 64.95/$ in early trade on Tuesday. On macroeconomic side, a slew of numbers were released last week, which portrays Indian economic story as a bright spot amid a fragile global economic backdrop. In international markets, US dollar continues to lose ground, as minutes of the recent US FOMC meeting suggests that a rate hike by Federal Reserve this year is very unlikely.

Shares of Lupin Ltd was trading higher by up by 1% at Rs. 2,088. The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approved 14 foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals of the company.The stock opened higher at Rs. 2,097 as against its previous close of Rs. 2,068.85. It surged to an intra-day high of Rs. 2,100.
