The BSE Sensex opened at 26,239, touched an intra-day high of 26,256 and low of 26,042. It finally ended with a loss of 52 points at 26,118. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,977 hitting a high of 7,979 and low of 7,911, before ending with a loss of 24 points at 7,932.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 0.4% to 15.7050. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed up 0.36% and Hang Seng closed higher 1.7%.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 marginally up 0.4%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 flat. Lupin, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Dr. Reddy's Lab, Reliance Industries, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, ITC and GAIL were among the gainers on NSE, whereas PNB, SBI, Bank of Baroda, HCL Tech, Infosys, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank were among the losers today.
Out of 1,755 stocks traded on the NSE, 762 declined and 746 advanced today. A total of 67 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 13 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
