Sensex, Nifty Decline In Early Trade

The markets world over are losing value and India will join its peers even as investors weigh local and global developments. The US indices slipped into negative zone for the year. The culprit for the day was cooling oil prices which crashed energy shares bringing down key indices. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’s move to keep crude production running at current levels resulted in oil futures reeling by nearly 6% to settle at $37.65 a barrel, which is a seven-year low.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,458 down 72 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,749 down 16 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.12% at 10,911, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.01% at 11,575. Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj-Auto, Infosys, Axis Bank and HUL are among the gainers, whereas Dr. Reddy's Lab, HDFC, Vedanta, ONGC, GAIL, Hindalco, Coal India, Lupin and ICICI Bank are losing sheen on BSE.

Out of 1,725 stocks traded on the NSE,721 declined and 599 advanced today. A total of 22 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
