Sensex, Nifty Choppy; Banking, Consumer Durables Drag

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,821 down 30 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,854 down 11 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.36% at 11,026, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.50% at 11,732.

Some buying activity is seen in capital goods, metal, oil & gas, telecom, auto, FMCG and energy sectors, while IT, teck, banking, consumer durable and finance sectors are showing weakness on BSE. Tata Motors, GAIL, Coal India, Cipla, M&M, Hero MotoCorp and BHEL are among the gainers, whereas HDFC, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel and SBI are losing sheen on BSE.

The India VIX (Volatility) index is down 0.45% to 13.590. Out of 1,769 stocks traded on the NSE, 601 declined and 894 advanced today. A total of 59 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while six stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Biocon rallied 5.7% to Rs.509 after the company has introduced the an advanced novel therapy CIMIVIR-L for the treatment of Hepatitis-C in India. V-Mart Retail galloped 12.6% to Rs.550.50 on BSE. The Reserve Bank of India has notified that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) can now invest up to 49 per cent of the paid up capital of V-Mart Retail Limited under the Portfolio Investment Scheme.

Shares of Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers were trading higher 16.7% at Rs. 48.40 on BSE today. Around 38.8 lakh shares were traded in a single block at Rs. 41.50 on the BSE.
