Sensex Ends 200 Points Higher; Banking, Auto Lead

The BSE Sensex opened at 25,425, touched an intra-day high of 25,758 and low of 25,414. It finally ended with a gain of 217 points at 25,736. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,746 hitting a high of 7,841 and low of 7,733, before ending with a gain of 73 points at 7,834.

The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 1.39% to 14.2900. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed rallied 1.8% and Hang Seng marginally up 0.17%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 slipped 1%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were down 1% each.

ICICI Bank, ONGC, M&M, Power Grid, ITC, Cairn India, Idea Cellular, Vedanta, Hero MotoCorp and Axis Bank were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Sun Pharma, GAIL, Asian Paints, HUL, UltraTech Cement, Grasim Industries, Tech Mahindra and BPCL were among the losers today. Out of 1,781 stocks traded on the NSE, 470 declined and 1,083 advanced today.

The Rupee was seen strengthening against the US dollar. The Indian currency was quoted around 66.34 per US dollar, up 13 paise from the previous day's close.
