The BSE Sensex opened at 24,936, touched an intra-day high of 25,194 and low of 25,868. It finally ended with a gain of 106 points at 25,150. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,558 hitting a high of 7,664 and low of 7,551 before ending with a gain of 40 points at 7,650.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 3.81% to 17.8375. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index gained 2.5% and Hang Seng closed lower 1%.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 down 2.2%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were down 2%. Adani Ports, Hindalco, Coal India, Zee Entertainment, Ambuja Cement, M&M, Maruti, Idea Cellular and Asian Paints were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, SBI, ICICI Bank and L&T were among the losers today. Out of 1,774 stocks traded on the NSE, 647 declined and 890 advanced today.
