The Indian equity market closed with smart gains extending its winning streak for the third consecutive trading session. The BSE Sensex opened at 25,402, touched an intra-day high of 25,573 and low of 25,372. It finally ended with a gain of 174 points at 25,494.
The NSE Nifty opened at 7,725 hitting a high of 7,777 and low of 7,716, before ending with a gain of 50 points at 7,751. The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 3.12% to 16.80. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed marginally up and Hang Seng rallied 2%.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 jumped 2.4%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were up. Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Cairn India, Power Grid, ICICI Bank, Idea Cellular, Lupin, Infosys, BPCL and IndusInd Bank were among the gainers on NSE, whereas M&M, Asian Paints, ITC, Wipro, Hindalco, PNB, Bosch and UltraTech Cement were among the losers today. Out of 1,769 stocks traded on the NSE, 718 declined and 817 advanced today.
