Global markets

US: The tech-heavy Nasdaq edged down 0.35 points to 6,623.66, the Dow edged up 0.2% to 22,997.44 and the S&P 500 inched up 0.1% to 2,559.36.

Despite the choppy trading on the day, the Dow and the S&P 500 reached new record closing highs.

The modest gain by the Dow was partly due to a significant advance by shares of United Health (UNH), which surged up by 5.5% after the health insurer reported better than expected third-quarter earnings and raised its full-year guidance.

Europe closed modestly lower in yesterday’s session with FTSE down 0.14%, CAC down 0.03%, DAX down 0.07%.

In the derivative market, FII’s bought 258 crores of Index futures and bought 927 crores worth of Index options.

In the stock futures segment, FII’s sold 8 crores worth of stock futures and sold 87 crores stock options.
