The Indian stock market edged lower in early trade on worries that recent rise in crude oil prices will adversely impact India's fiscal deficit situation and will increase fuel price inflation as India imports about 80% of its crude requirements. The BSE Sensex opened 26.18 points, or 0.10 per cent, down at 26,994.48, while NSE Nifty opened 0.30 points up at 8,273.35.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,816 down 204 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,219 down 54 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.06% at 11,469, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.22% at 11,406.
NTPC, RIL, ONGC, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, GAIL and SBI are among the gainers, whereas Infosys, hul, Dr.Reddy's, ITC, HDFC, Hero MotoCorp and Asian Paints are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in metal, oil and gas, power, energy, utilities and consumer durables sectors, while IT, banking, capital goods, teck, pharma, industrial and FMCG are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 2.55% at 15.5300. Out of 1,805 stocks traded on the NSE, 679 declined, 793 advanced and 333 remained unchanged today. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 15 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
