The BSE Sensex climbed over 100 points while the 50-share Nifty traded above its crucial psychological level of 8,100 led by gains in index heavyweights like Infosys, ITC, Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank.
Investors will be getting some support with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement after a meeting of Empowered Committee of state FMs on the long awaited indirect tax reform that every state has either supported or accepted the idea of the pan-India Goods and Services Tax (GST) except Tamil Nadu. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,483 up 88 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,131 up 22 points.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.43% at 11,389, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.73% at 11,455. Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports, L&T, BHEL, Cipla, Hero MotoCorp, SBI and Tata Steel are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, Dr.Reddy's, Coal India, HDFC, TCS and HUL are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in telecom, power, industrial, oil and gas, FMCG, utilities and IT sectors, while metal is showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 1.09% at 17.3775. Out of 1,810 stocks traded on the NSE, 393 declined, 1,064 advanced and 393 remained unchanged today.
