The BSE Sensex opened 167.48 points, or 0.63 per cent, down at 26,468.27, while Nifty 50 index opened 67.80 points, or 0.83 per cent, down at 26,468.27. On the economy front, government to release May consumer price inflation data and the wholesale price index (WPI) for May on Tuesday.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,338 down 297 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,087 down 83 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.73% at 11,293, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.72% at 11,282.

Dr.Reddy's, Lupin, Cipla, Coal India and Sun Pharma are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, SBI and Tata Steel are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in realty, banking, auto, banking, capital goods, finance, telecom and FMCG sectors, while pharma is showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is up 5.33% at 16.8225. Out of 1,813 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,032 declined, 448 advanced and 333 remained unchanged today. A total of 31 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 23 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Tata Motors dropped 3.5% to Rs.441.25 on BSE. The company has launched its next-generation 'Ultra' range of light commercial vehicle (LCV) in Kenya. Reliance Communications slipped 1.2% to Rs.48.60 on BSE. The telecom company is set to launch 4G services on its own across India in phases, starting mid-August from the key circles of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, says report.
