The BSE Sensex opened 20 points down at 26,694, while NSE Nifty opened 23 points down at 8,157. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,833 up 118 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,211 up 21 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.64% at 11,405, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.29% at 11,195.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.45% at 11,383, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.19% at 11,183. Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, GAIL, ONGC, Infosys, ICICI Bank and M&M are among the gainers, whereas Wipro, ITC, HUL, Sun Pharma, Lupin and L&T are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in metal, telecom, auto, oil and gas, power and utilities sectors, while pharma, FMCG, consumer durables, FMCG, capital goods, IT and realty are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is down 1.15% at 15.6525. Out of 1,810 stocks traded on the NSE,833 declined, 683 advanced and 294 remained unchanged today.

A total of 24 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 33 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened higher by 4 paise at 67.41/$ against US Dollar on Thursday as against the previous close of 67.45/$. In the cross currency space, Japanese Yen registered strong move against the greenback, garnering strength from PM Abe’s decision to delay sales tax hike by two and half years.

Coal India soared 3.3% to Rs.307. The company has achieved a production of 42.58 million tonnes in May, lower than the target of 44.64 million tonnes (MT) for the month. During the months of April and May, the miner produced 82.93 MT of coal against the target of 89.12 MT.
