The BSE Sensex opened 21.20 points down at 26,742, while NSE Nifty opened 23.35 points lower at 8,180.25. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,705 down 58 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,197 down mere six points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.20% at 11,444 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.48% at 11,439. BHEL, Adani Ports, NTPC, Cipla, ONGC, GAIL, Lupin and Tata Steel are among the gainers, whereas Infosys, HDFC, TCS, Tata Motors and Dr.Reddy's are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in power, utilities, capital goods, metal, realty and industrial sectors, while IT, consumer durables, auto, banking, telecom and finance are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 0.47% at 15.7475. Out of 1,791 stocks traded on the NSE, 470 declined, 928 advanced and 393 remained unchanged today.

A total of 21 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while seven stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened lower by nine paise at 66.80/$ against US Dollar on Friday as against the previous close of 66.71/$. On the economy front, the government will today announce Import & export data and April industrial production data.

NTPC Ltd stock was up by 1% at Rs.151. The company has signed an agreement with South Western Railway for doubling of the Hotgi-Kudgi section under the Customer Funding Concession scheme, says report.
