The Indian stock market opened in the green following Asian cues on the day of derivatives expiry. The BSE Sensex opened 185.78 points up at 26926, while NSE Nifty opened 56.25 points up at 8,260.25.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,904 up 163 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,253 up 50 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.74% at 11,657 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.84% at 11,790.
Tata Motors, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Dr.Reddy's, Tata Steel, SBI and NTPC are among the gainers, whereas HDFC Bank, Infosys and Sun Pharmaceuticals are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in realty, consumer durables, auto, banking, industrial and consumer discretionary goods & services sectors, while IT sector is showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.20% at 16.1875. Out of 1,819 stocks traded on the NSE, 460 declined, 1,044 advanced and 315 remained unchanged today. A total of 76 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 14 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
Gayatri Projects soared 3.5% to Rs.644. The company has bagged a Rs.306 crore contract for the four laning of a highway on the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (NHDP-IVA Cell).
