The BSE Sensex climbed over 100 points while the 50-share Nifty traded above its crucial psychological level of 8,100 led by gains in index heavyweights like Infosys, ITC, Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank.
Investors will be getting some support with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement after a meeting of Empowered Committee of state FMs on the long awaited indirect tax reform that every state has either supported or accepted the idea of the pan-India Goods and Services Tax (GST) except Tamil Nadu.
At 12:49 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,539 up 143 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,150 up 41 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.52% at 11,399, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.89% at 11,473.
NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Hero MotoCorp, L&T, Cipla, SBI and HUL are among the gainers, whereas Axis Bank, Coal India, Dr.Reddy's, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports and M&M are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in power, capital goods, telecom, industrial, oil and gas, FMCG, utilities and IT sectors on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.78% at 17.3250. Out of 1,812 stocks traded on the NSE, 393 declined, 1,077 advanced and 289 remained unchanged today. A total of 70 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 16 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
