Major private bank players in the country, Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are trading weak. The stocks are biggest contributors to the BSE Bankex in the morning hours. BSE Bankex is trading lower by 15 points at 24045 levels.
Nifty Bank Nifty index is trading lower by 50 points at 21072 levels. Punjab National Bank is the top gainer in the index trading at Rs 143 per share higher by 1.4%.
At 10 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 29262 down 158 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 9055 up 52 points. A total of 38 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 17 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
There are 679 advances, 825 declines and 414 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting fairly negative bias floating in the market. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.24% at 13816, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading flat at 14076. All the sectoral indices on BSE are trading in negative territory.
Bank of Baroda, Hindustan Unilever Limited, State Bank of India, Axis Bank and Power Grid are among the gainers, whereas Idea, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Coal India and Aurobindo Pharma are losing sheen on NSE in the first trading hour. The INDIA VIX is up 3.8% at 12.43.
