Closing bell : Sensex Drops 266 pts, Nifty Holds 9800 Midcap Plunges 3%

Markets were strongly dominated by bearish sentiments on Thursday's trade. Nifty ended at 9,820 level slipping by 87 points whereas BSE Sensex closed lower losing 266 points at 31,531 level. Tech Mahindra was the top Nifty gainer on Thursday’s trade.Tech Mahindra closed higher by 2.89% at Rs 405.25 per share.BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 2.64% at 14,755. BSE Small-cap index closed lower by 2.90% at 15,181. India VIX closed higher by 4.4% at 14.04.

Tech Mahindra, Aurobindo Pharma and Infosys are the top Nifty gainers, whereas Tata Motors, Tata Motors DVR and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories are the top Nifty losers.Realty Stocks witnessed a steep fall in the closing hours of trade. Realty stocks namely DLF closed lower by 8% at Rs 164.35 per share, HDIL closed lower 2.26% at Rs 56.10 per share, Oberoi Realty closed down 0.79% at Rs 370 per share and Indiabulls Real Estate closed lower by 8.66% at Rs 227.85 per share.Tata Motors closed lower by 8.60% at Rs 380.90 per share after posting weak results. The stock also traded on a new 52-weeek low of Rs 376.00 per share.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories closed lower by 4.77% at Rs 1948.95 per share and Sun Pharma Industries closed lower by 3.08% at Rs 460.15 per share. Securities and Appellate Tribunal (SAT) has stayed Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) directions on J Kumar Infraprojects and Prakash Industries. The tribunal directed the market regulator to revert the status of these two companies. SAT is also likely to hear Parsvnath Developers’ argument on Friday.
