Nifty closed at 8,879.20 levels, up by 57.50 points or 0.65%; while Sensex closed at 28,661.58 levels, up by 192.83 points or 0.68%. There are 1,039 advances, 587 declines and 30 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting strong positive sentiments floating in the market. In Monday’s trading session, 55 stocks touched their fresh 52-week highs and 13 stocks touched their 52-week lows on NSE.
TCS was the top Nifty gainer whereas, Axis Bank was the top Nifty loser on Monday. TCS closed at Rs 2,505 per share, up by Rs 97.10 per share or 4.03%. Axis Bank Limited closed at Rs 479.90 per share, down by Rs 9.20 per share or 1.88%. Broader markets outperformed the major indices in Monday’s trading session. BSE Mid-cap index closed at 13,514.49 levels, up by 91.60 points or 0.68%. BSE Small-cap index closed at 13,589.63 levels, up by 121.99 points or 0.91%.
TCS announced buyback up to 5,61,40,351 equity shares of the company for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 16,000 crore per equity share.The buyback price is set at Rs 2,850 per share at nearly 11% premium on the current market price. The buyback will be made from shareholders under tender offer route.
TCS touched high of Rs 2,555 per share, up by Rs 147.10 per share or 6.1% on an intraday basis.
Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., top gainer from the BSE Mid-cap index closed at Rs 100.15 per share, up by Rs 7.20 per share or 7.75%.
GMR Infrastructure Ltd. closed at Rs 15.30 per share, up by Rs 0.91 per share or 6.32%.
Top gainer from the BSE Small-cap index, Marksans Pharma Ltd., closed at Rs 48.70 per share, up by Rs 8.10 per share or 19.95%.
IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company Ltd. closed at Rs 63.60 per share, up by Rs 8.45 per share or 15.32%.
