Nifty, Sensex Rebound To End Higher On Eve Of GST

After a choppy start, Nifty closed at 9,520 level up by 16 points above its 50-DMA of 9,474 and Sensex closed at 30,921 level up by 64 points. Bank of Baroda was the top gainer on Nifty and Tata Motors was the top loser on Friday. The broader market indices closed higher in the Friday’s trading session. BSE Mid-cap index closed at 14,644 level higher by 91 points or 0.63% and BSE Small-cap index closed at 15,410 higher by 100 points or 0.66%.There were 862 advances, 781 declines and 306 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting investor’s mixed sentiments ahead of GST rollout.

Bank Nifty closed lower by 16 points at 23,211 level. Bank of Baroda was top gainer in the index closed higher by 4.05% at Rs 161.8 per share. A leading research agency upgraded its view on Bank of Baroda insisting that the bank's loan book could witness healthy growth in FY17-19.

FMCG heavyweight, ITC Limited was the top gainer in FMCG space and was the stock of the day. ITC’s upward rally during the closing hour single-handedly pushed Nifty and Sensex to the green zone. ITC touched its all-time high of Rs 324.7 per share, up by 4.2% and closed higher by 3.66% at Rs 323 per share.

Nifty Pharma index was the second top gainer among sectoral indices on NSE, after Nifty FMCG index closed higher by 178 points at 9,606 level. Sun Pharma was the top gainer in the index closed higher by Rs 19.1 per share or nearly 4% at Rs 556 per share.

CDSL listed on the NSE with whopping premium of 68% and closed at Rs 260.7 per share higher by 75% against its issue price of Rs 149 per share on its very first day of trading.

AU Small Finance Bank IPO also got a stellar response on its last day of subscription on Friday. The issue got subscribed by 38.47 times as of 1530 hours.
